The recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Eminent Domain has cleared the way for governments to take your
property, against your will, and sell it to another private citizen for his own use, provided they can
come up with a convincing story about how the theft of your property will constitute a public benefit.
The City of Valparaiso is doing just that.
When complete, this page will contain information about the underhanded manner in which the City of Valparaiso and the
Valparaiso
Economic Development Corp. have comdemned and will subsequently legally steal the County Seat Shopping Center
from LNR of Valparaiso, LLC. (the rightful owners) for $1.5 million less that the previous high offer, and
then sell it to the Urschel family for "Redevelopment." All this even after the current property
owners had revealed a plan to invest $2 million to renovate the property. This occurred with a 4 to 2 vote of
the city council with only Councilmen Joey Larr and Robert McCasland dissenting the action.

The Urschels originally bid $8.5
million for the property. When their bid was rejected for being too low, I guess they convinced the city to violate
the Free-Market-Place and get it for them at a cheaper price.
That falls under the heading "Them what got's the gold makes the rules!"
You can read the city's slant at the
North Calumet Project on the Valparaiso Government website.
Don't be fooled by the flowery justifications and well documented plans. This administration is all about moving wealthy
professional people (physicians, lawyers and the like) into our town and driving us lower & middle class working
types out. They are doing this by driving up property values (and thereby tax rates, rent payments and cost of living)
making it difficult if not impossible for any but the rich to afford living here.

I don't know about you, but my apartment complex was scooped up by an Indianapolis REIT about 3 years
ago and since then, my rent has gone up by $75.00/month. "That", as Bill O'Reilly would say, "is ridiculous!"
The really sinister part is that they are using OUR tax dollars to drive us out of OUR town.
